@Lily
Is it still powerful? How fast is the 86?
Nope
The older models aren’t terrible. The new ones do have engine issues right now. They’re a lot of fun but not reliable enough for me. I ended up going with a Miata instead. It gives a similar driving experience, is slightly less refined, but still so much fun. Plus, the engines don’t blow up. Have you considered getting a GR Corolla?
@Denise
The engine failures reported so far have only involved cars that were tracked. Everyday drivers haven’t reported this issue.

I have a friend who had one, and he doesn’t track his cars, yet his engine failed. This is happening to a lot of people. I’ve been to track days, and Miatas are always among the top three cars being tracked, both new and older generations, so that point isn’t valid. Many people on forums are talking about their new 86 engines failing without track use, though not everyone may be honest. Overall, anything not completely a Toyota engine might not be worth it. That’s just my view, and I think the 86 is cool, but the collaboration with Subaru makes me hesitant.
I have a cousin who had an FR-S as well, and he had engine issues after the warranty was up. I’m not sure how he drove it, though. You may want to think about that.
