Thinking of Getting a 2023 Prius LE… What Are the Pros and Cons?

I’m considering buying a used 2023 Prius LE FWD, but I want to hear from actual owners. Any common problems? Mechanical issues? Anything that makes you love or hate it? Let me know what you think.

No downsides. Best car ever. Just buy a new one if you can—there are discounts out there.

I’ve had mine for a month.

Pros: 57 mpg with E10, 64 mpg with pure gas (Is Ethanol a scam?). Almost double the horsepower of older models. People actually think it looks cool now. It has some self-driving features.

Cons: Most people can’t figure out how to open the rear door. The beeping in a car wash is ridiculous. Cargo space is smaller than older versions. The LE model has a lower trunk floor than the folded seats, so you get more space but not a flat surface.

I have a 2024 LE.

Cons:

The wireless Bluetooth is unreliable, so I just use a cable. My right elbow always ends up pressing a button by accident.

Might be a CarPlay issue. If you delete the Toyota app and reject any WiFi requests, does Bluetooth work better?

Lots of people have this problem, not just me.

Yeah, but if you turn off WiFi, does Bluetooth stop acting up?

Not sure, but I really shouldn’t have to do that.

Test drive it first. Rear visibility is awful.

Also, all those YouTube reviews showing the rear light bar fully lit? Yeah, that’s only on the higher trims. On the LE, just the ends light up—the middle part is fake.

Pros: Great fuel economy. Feels nice to drive.

Overall, I’m happy with mine.

I have a 2023 Limited. Compared to my last car, front visibility is worse because of the steep windshield and thick A-pillars. More than once, I’ve almost missed a car or pedestrian at an intersection because they were perfectly blocked.

I’m 5’6”, and I can see the dashboard fine—it just takes some seat and steering adjustments.

Other than that, I love the car. Looks great, crazy fuel efficiency, and storage is fine for my needs (though I’ve never owned an older Prius, so I can’t compare).

One issue—replacement parts take forever. Someone hit my front bumper, and it took six weeks to get it fixed because of the wait time for parts.

I’ve had mine for almost two years, about 20k miles in.

No major problems, just small annoyances.

  • The seatbelt reminder gets loud and annoying fast.
  • If the driver’s door is even slightly open, the car locks up and won’t move until you put it in park again.
  • I think the highway MPG is overestimated—I only get around 45, but the speed limits near me are 75+ mph.
  • Braking over potholes or train tracks makes a weird clunking sound. Doesn’t sound great.
  • Wireless CarPlay randomly disconnects and needs a restart.

Other than that, it’s a great car. Good acceleration, excellent MPG, looks nice, and the infotainment system is decent, with actual buttons.
