What do you think about the 4Runner TRD Pro? Looking for opinions on both the pros and cons.
@Holland
Any downsides to it?

I love having a vehicle I can go anywhere in that’s comfortable and drives smoothly. Some people complain about the gas mileage, but I don’t live in a city or drive it a lot. I enjoy having off-road options, cameras, and features like heated seats and a heated steering wheel.
@Holland
Sounds like a solid choice, can’t go wrong with that!

14 mpg? That could be a downside for some.

I moved from a 2011 Ford Escape, the newest car I had before the 4Runner. I love being able to open the hatch and relax.

I test drove a 2022 4Runner, and I thought it had a pretty stiff ride. Also, the road noise was a bit much. Just something to think about.
@Corey
Yeah, it’s a body-on-frame SUV that hasn’t changed much since 2010.

You’re paying extra for the TRD Pro, but you could get a TRD Offroad and spend less. Then use the savings to get a better suspension setup than the Pro offers.
What’s your main use for it…? Every vehicle has its pros and cons.
If you want an off-road vehicle, get it. But if you’re looking for modern tech, good fuel economy, and sporty driving, maybe not.

Towing a trailer, camping, off-roading, and family trips.
@Brook
For the price of a TRD Pro 4Runner, you can get a used 200 series Land Cruiser, which is way better for all that.
Thanks for all the input. It sounds like the 4Runner is a good choice if I go for the higher-end trims.
If you can afford the TRD Pro, go for it. I absolutely love mine. Sure, you could spend less on a TRD Offroad and put $15k into mods to make it better than a stock Pro, but if you want the off-road features stock, the Pro is the way to go. People who dislike the Pro are just upset it costs more than they think it should.
@Cass
That’s a fair point.
Are you really going off-road with it, or just telling yourself you will because it’s a 4Runner? Gas mileage is bad, it’s not the best on-road, and the tech is outdated. It will last a long time, though, and there’s a lot of aftermarket support. As someone who’s had a 2019 4Runner and has owned Jeeps before, most people who get one probably should have gotten a RAV4, but the 4Runner just looks better.
Car Care Nut said this and I agree: The Off-road Premium is the best 4Runner. The TRD Pro is more expensive, but you don’t get that much more for the price. Go with the ORP if you want a solid vehicle.
Yuppie bait.
