Tips for Removing Faded Tacoma Lettering?

The black Tacoma lettering on the truck I just bought is really faded. Any advice on removing it safely without damaging the paint underneath?

I removed mine using a hairdryer and Goo Gone. Took some time, but the paint underneath stayed intact.

Sounds easy enough! I’m planning to replace them, so as long as the paint’s good, I’ll give it a shot.

@Olin
Exactly. Just be patient cleaning off the sticky residue. Good luck!

The detailed method: heat gun and fishing line to remove the letters, then use an eraser wheel and Goo Gone to clean the adhesive. Works great if they’re raised letters.

Thanks! The ones on the bed are raised, but the door ones seem like overlays. I’ll give this a try.

Heat, fishing line, and 3M adhesive remover from the auto parts store. Quick and easy—minimal hassle.

They might just have wax on them. Try something like Black Magic before you go through the effort of removal.

I’ll try that first, thanks for the suggestion!

Step one: unscrew the dealership’s cheap plastic license plate frame and toss it in the trash.

No plates yet, so not an issue. But thanks for solving a problem I don’t have!

Honestly, I’d just use a black paint pen and call it a day.

I just repainted mine when they started fading.

What kind of paint did you use?
