Tire pressure warning light on but tires are fine... 2012 RAV4 Sport?

My tire pressure warning light has been on for a while, even though all four tires have the right pressure. I drive a 2012 RAV4 Sport, and it doesn’t have a reset button. It started acting up when the temps dropped a few months ago. Any advice?

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Could be one of the sensors going bad. Ever tried getting it checked out with a scan tool?

Not yet. I thought I could maybe reset it myself, but it sounds like that’s not possible?

@Zan
If you disconnect the battery for a couple minutes, that might reset it. Won’t fix it permanently, though, if it’s a sensor issue.

I had a similar problem with my car last winter! My mechanic told me the cold can mess with the TPMS sensors. Did the light come on around 35°F?

Yep, it came on right when the temps dropped around there. Maybe it just needs a reset?

@Zan
Probably! If it doesn’t go off after driving 10-20 miles, it might be an actual sensor issue.

Just curious—if you disconnect the battery to reset it, would that mess up any other settings in the car?

Good question! It might reset your clock and radio presets, but nothing major.

Good to know, thanks. I don’t mind resetting a few things if it means the light turns off!

I used to drive a Mini, and my TPMS light would come on every winter, lol. Manuals usually suggest a reset, but Toyota didn’t put that button in this model.

I know, right? Would be nice to just have a button for it. Toyota making it complicated!

@Zan
Yeah, kind of annoying. If you’re due for an inspection, they might still pass it as long as it’s not a Check Engine light.

FYI, TPMS lights are common with temp changes. Try the battery trick or have a shop scan it to see which sensor’s off.

Good idea! I’ll try the battery thing first and see if that helps. Thanks!

Let us know if it works!
