Still torn between getting the new Gen 6, finding another Gen 5, or maybe going for a GX. Stay safe out there, 4Runner fam…
Man, I’m really sorry to hear that.
That sucks. Hope they don’t recover it honestly—you never know what shape it’ll be in. I have both a GX and a 4Runner. GX is solid, but if I could do it over, I’d go with a Land Cruiser.
On the bright side, it’s kind of a golden age for Toyota 4x4s. You’ve got lots of options—older Land Cruisers, another 5th gen, or a new one.

I used to trust the 5th gen’s proven V6—it’s reliable and smooth. I’m not sold on the new twin-turbo hybrid. I’ve test driven the Grand Highlander, Sienna, and Gen 6… all have noticeable engine noise compared to the buttery smooth 5G.
Mine was stolen too, but I got it back. Still driving it. Hope yours turns up!

Hoping for that too… really wish I’d hidden an AirTag in the spare tire.

Honestly, that’s a great idea.
That’s awful. Mine got stolen from a repair shop last year. Timing ended up working out though—I found a killer deal on a fully-loaded ORP with KDSS.
So sorry, man. Were you up on Mauna Kea? If so, maybe it didn’t get too far.
Any idea how they’re stealing these? I know OP might not know, but curious if anyone else has insight.
Toyota couldn’t track it down for you?

They probably disabled the GPS. Last known location was near the El Paso border.

Welp, guess it’s cartel property now.
Was this a Turo rental situation?

Yeah… never again. Don’t ever list your 4Runner on Turo—it’s not worth the pain.

Honestly, any SUV. My friend’s Yukon got jacked and taken to Mexico too, but Border Patrol ended up finding it.
@Harlow
Turo changed its rules, making people remove AirTags and only letting you use their bulkier, overpriced trackers. They’re easy to spot and rip out. Theft went up, and it’s hurting their IPO chances.
I’ve got an AirTag hidden in mine, with the speaker removed and tucked in a case.
So sorry to hear this
