Toyota GR Corolla TC Racecar joining TC America in 2025

Great to see this car getting into racing. Anyone know how much of the drivetrain is similar to what we get in the regular version?

For TC cars in SRO, they usually keep the stock drivetrain, but they might add a sequential gearbox. It really depends on the new rules coming out this year.

Edit: From the pictures, it looks like it’s still using an H-pattern gearbox though.

@Ciel
Are they really gonna run the AWD system? That thing won’t last more than 12 minutes unless they tweak it.

There’s actually a third-party company that made a transfer case cooler that’s supposed to help with the rear diff overheating problem. Hopefully, Toyota can come up with something similar, or even better, for the racecar.

@Zayne
According to ‘goose man,’ it’s not a thermal issue causing the throttling. And honestly, a racecar isn’t gonna be using some random aftermarket parts. Just like BMW factory teams don’t put tuner parts on their cars, this racecar won’t have an aftermarket diff cooler slapped on.

@Dex
Haha, it took me a while to realize who ‘goose man’ was. But yeah, seems like they still haven’t found a solid fix. That cooler sounded promising, but in their demo, they were also using some aftermarket AWD controller. If that played a role in their test car’s performance, it feels kinda misleading.

@Ciel
Looks like it might have an automatic shifter. Could be running an auto gearbox, kind of like how the Audi RS3 uses the EA888 engine with a DSG gearbox.

I was really wondering if they’d enter this one. The Elantra N dominated most of the races where I think this will compete. Unless they enter it in the silver class where the M2 was winning, though Acura was keeping up with them pretty well. Can’t wait for next season!

So, the big question… is it gonna be able to go over 85 mph? :thinking::sunglasses:

Haha, I was just thinking that too!

Better not go over 85 or you’ll void your warranty.

It’s crazy how only one GR owner supposedly had this issue. But yeah, I’m sure they’re the only one who’s driven over 85 in a GR… :smirk:

@Kenan
Actually, two people had their warranty denied, and they both said it was because of that. I wish Toyota would clear this up. The way they denied the claims and the fact that they get data from the ECU makes it way too easy to void warranties. Their excuse about tires not being safe over 85 mph is kinda ridiculous.

Ugh, that old argument again… give it a rest.
