Hey everyone! Just wanted to share how replacing my air filter early (around 23,000 miles) noticeably improved my gas mileage. I’ve seen an increase of at least 3 mpg in city/highway combined driving (70% city, 30% highway). Highlander 2.4T owners, you might want to check your filters too!
We have a 2024 2.4T loaner while my 2021 is getting a transmission replaced under warranty. The 2024 gets 26.5 mpg, and my 2021 was averaging 25.5 mpg. My wife is a pretty light driver, mostly commuting 30 miles (26 highway, 4 city). I honestly expected the 2.4T to do better than this. I miss having the V6.
How do you check that screen? My lifetime average is 22 mpg after 19,000 miles. I replaced my filter with an OEM one. What did you replace yours with?
I had 34.3 mpg driving to Long Island on a smooth road, no wind, and mild temperature, driving at about 65 mph. I use premium gas and drive calmly.
I used a Fram filter.
Got it! My driving is mostly short freeway trips (5-10 miles), so I guess I’m not getting true freeway mileage.
I have a 2022 V6 and usually get 25-29 mpg in combined driving here in Auckland, New Zealand.
Honestly thought the 4-cylinder would get better mileage. My V6 non-hybrid Highlander does about the same or sometimes better in daily driving.
I’m based in NYC.
I’m in NYC too and drive a hybrid. I noticed that my mpg doesn’t match the high numbers others mention during local trips, but I get over 40 mpg when I go upstate or out of state. It’s probably just a difference in driving conditions.
I’m in Toronto and work downtown. Doesn’t seem to make much difference where you are; it’s more about how you drive.
