Toyota just confirmed at a rally event that the Celica is coming back, and they’re working on a new 86. Thoughts?
If they don’t make an AWD turbo version and call it ‘Celica GR-Four,’ they’re really missing out. Plus, it needs a liftback like all the old ones.

Totally agree. GR-Four just fits perfectly.

Exactly! If it’s not AWD, turbo, and manual (or at least paddle shift), I’m out. They need to bring something like the old 3SGTE back. Toyota, don’t let us down!
@Gyllenhall
It’s probably going to have the same 3-cylinder engine as the GR Yaris/Corolla. Maybe a 4-cylinder if we’re lucky, but don’t expect anything wild.
@Gyllenhall
Yeah, no way they’ll bring back the 3SGTE. That ship sailed years ago.

Liftbacks are hard to get past rear crash tests these days. I’m expecting more of a crossover vibe for the new 86.

Y’all need to chill.
This is teasing me worse than my wife did before we got married. Guess I better tell her a Celica might join the garage soon.
I drive a new WRX now, and while the look’s not for everyone, it’s a solid family car. If Toyota makes a 4-door AWD turbo liftback, I’m in. My first cars were an '83 and '90 GT-S. Time for another Celica.
@Brandy
I had an '89 GT-S and an '01 GT-S. It’d be nice to park another Celica next to my dad cars (Prius Prime and Highlander).
If they give the new 86 a G16 engine, the ‘86 is underpowered’ crowd won’t have any excuses left.
What’s happening with the MR2 though?
I just want a mid-engine Toyota again.

Hang tight. I think a new MR2 is coming soon. I’m holding off on buying a toy car just in case.
Toyota is doing some cool stuff lately.
It’s gonna be a 3-cylinder CVT turbo, isn’t it?
Doesn’t matter. Dealers will jack up the price so high no one will be able to afford one.

I got my GR Corolla under MSRP with every package added. Just wait a year after release if you miss the early wave. If you can’t wait, well, that’s on you.
@harry
People in the U.S. think all small Toyotas are unsafe tin cans.
