i found a 2022 toyota venza hybrid xle with 63K miles on carmax for $27,998. is this a good deal? i would have to ship it since it’s in another state. my plan is to take it to a mechanic as soon as i get it for a full checkup. i tried to find something closer but this car has everything i’ve been looking for. leather seats, AWD, hybrid, and it’s under my budget of $30K. i also considered a rav4 but the hybrid models with leather seats seem to be at least $35K. has anyone bought a used toyota hybrid from carmax? is 63K miles too much for a used hybrid?
63K miles isn’t too bad since the hybrid battery has a 10-year/150K mile warranty. That price seems fair based on what I’ve seen. I’m not a fan of buying cars without seeing them first, but at least CarMax has a return policy. Just be aware you won’t get the shipping fee back. Also, neither the Venza nor Rav4 has actual leather, they use Toyota’s SofTex material, which is pretty durable.
A colleague bought a used car from another state without seeing it first. It was damaged in transit (or maybe it was already damaged), and now the shipper and dealer are blaming each other. I wouldn’t take that risk for a daily driver.
@Quinlan
that sounds like a mess. did they buy it from carmax?
Since it’s a newer model, I’d rather buy from a Toyota dealer as a certified used car. That way, you get the extended 10-year warranty. CarMax offers warranties, but adding one might push the price over $30K. If you can’t go over your budget, you might have to give up leather seats or look at sedans. I wanted a Rav4 too, but it was out of my budget. Ended up getting a Camry for $10K less, and it had half the miles.
The price seems about right compared to what I see on Autotrader.
