What’s better for me… hybrid or gas?

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to Richmond, VA from NYC and realized I’ll definitely need a car there since public transport isn’t as good as in NYC. I’m trying to decide between buying a hybrid or a gas car. I can spend up to $32K, and I want something that’s good on costs since I’m starting my career.

I’ll probably drive less than 50 miles a day and want to keep the car for 5–7 years. Any advice on which type of car I should get?

Hybrids are great! I have one, and I save a ton on gas. I only fill up once a month most of the time.

Yeah, it’s worth it in the long run. There’s even a website where you can compare gas savings between cars: fueleconomy.gov. Check it out!

If I were you, I’d look at a Prius or Camry Hybrid LE.

What about the Corolla Hybrid?

It’s cheaper, but it has less power. It’s good, but if you’re driving a lot, I’d go for something a bit stronger like the Camry.

@Stormy
The Corolla is fine, especially if you use sport mode for merging. It might not be the fastest, but it does the job well enough.

That’s helpful to know, thanks!

The Corolla Hybrid is solid for what it is: a reliable, affordable car that gets you from A to B. It’s not very exciting, but it’s a good budget option. If you want more features, maybe look at the higher trims or the Camry.

@Mary1
Would you go with the Corolla XLE or the Camry LE hybrid?

I’ve driven both the Corolla Hybrid and the Prius, and I’d pick the Prius if the price difference isn’t a problem. The Prius feels more premium and has better fuel economy.

Go for a base model Camry Hybrid. It’s super comfortable and reliable.

The Camry is bigger, more comfortable, and just as good on gas. If it’s within your budget, I’d recommend it.

@Hayes
Makes sense, thanks!

I used to drive a regular gas Corolla, but after switching to a hybrid, I’d never go back. The hybrid feels so much smoother and quieter.

Good to know, thanks for sharing!

I’ve worked on Toyotas for almost 20 years, and hybrids are the way to go for a daily driver. They’re reliable and great on fuel.
