If you’re buying a white Toyota, be ready for some paint problems when it hits about 10 years old.
Why does white paint always seem to have issues? I swear every car maker had this problem at some point. White Mazdas, Crown Vics…

I once had a white 90’s Chevy Corsica as a winter beater. I called it the Moo-Cow… check out the picture above for some nostalgia. lol
It’s not just Toyota, it’s all white paint. Lots of car makers have this issue.
That’s a bummer! Thanks for the heads up… I’m not looking to buy a new car right now, but after seeing all these white cars having paint issues, I wouldn’t want to risk it with any white car.
Oh no!
I saw this on a Honda Odyssey too. What a shame.
What do you think caused the paint to peel? Could it be weather-related?

It’s a well-known issue with white Toyotas. They even sent a letter acknowledging the problem and extended the paint warranty to 10 years. But mine started peeling two weeks after the 10-year mark. The body shop said they see this happening a lot around the 10-year mark. It’s not related to weather—it’s been happening with Toyotas since about 2010. Some people on Tacoma forums have said it’s affecting models as late as 2019.
@Baylor
I found on Google that some Toyota vehicles with Blizzard Pearl or Super White paint (2008–2019 models) have peeling issues due to a manufacturing defect. The paint peels off the primer layer. Sunlight weakens the bonds holding the paint, causing it to peel.

Yeah, it’s a known issue with this paint color. But I’ve also noticed that paint on newer cars in general is bad. My 2021 RAV4 paint chips if you even look at it wrong.

Is this the Pearl white?

I’ve had this problem with Ford too. My old Mountaineer had the same issue, and my uncle’s F150 looks like it’s got a camo paint job from how bad it’s peeled.

Thanks for the info. My car is about to hit six years. I was thinking about getting a new coat of paint, probably white but with a matte finish.
This happened with my Honda HR-V too, it’s also white, and they issued a recall where you could bring it in to get fixed.
My white Chevy work van is peeling too.
This just started happening to my 2015. Is Toyota covering this?
Wind Chill Pearl is such a nice color But after the Blizzard Pearl issues, I’m not sure if their latest tri-color paint will hold up.
This happened to my roommate’s RAV4. They actually paid to fix it, but now the other side is peeling, and she doesn’t even care anymore.
I had mine repainted last year. It was part of the Toyota recall.
