Which Toyota engine is the most reliable?

Looking for a used vehicle and want to make the smartest choice. Which Toyota engine would you recommend for reliability?

1994-2014 stay in that range and you will be golden

Why 2014? 15, 16, 17 are just fine. Even 18-24, the 3.5L V6 and 2.5L I4 natural aspirated engines are bulletproof, and the hybrid powertrains in the Camry, Corolla, and Prius are solid too.

@Aeron
I say that because it’s a good starting point for proven reliability. A 2024 Camry may be reliable, but we haven’t seen it go as long as the older Camrys with 300k+ miles, 12 different owners, and 0 oil changes in 8 months.

@Del
Lmao, I get it now. But a 2024 is the same as a 2018 since it’s the same generation. There are taxis from '18-'19 with that kind of mileage, though not sure about the zero oil changes part :joy:

Here in Michigan, 2014s are going for up to $18k. I’m not sure I can justify paying that for an 11-year-old car.

That’s because it’s a Toyota. They hold their value because of how reliable they are.

What the hell kind of range is this? There’s some real trouble mixed in there. Good lord, man.

The naturally aspirated four-cylinder is the way to go. The 2.4 n/a in earlier RAV4s and Camrys is the only one I’d avoid, and even then it’s not that bad until you hit around 100k miles. You’re not going to find this type of engine in any of Toyota or Lexus’s current body-on-frame models. The largest vehicle you’ll find a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder in for the 2024/25 Toyota and Lexus lineup is either the Lexus TX hybrid or the Toyota Grand Highlander hybrid.

@Fife
What about the 2022 Toyota RAV4 2.5L 4cyl?

Probably Toyota’s best engine at the moment. Same goes for the 2.0 in the Corolla.
