You can only use clusters from another 06-07 Hatch Yaris. Here’s why:
The 2007 Yaris measured speed directly from the transmission. Starting in 2008, they used ABS and wheel speed sensors instead. So if you try to install an 09 cluster, the speedometer won’t work.
You need to find a cluster from a 2006-2007 hatch with a tachometer and without ABS. Unfortunately, in North America, that combination was only sold in Canada, so it’ll likely be in kilometers. You can often find them on eBay.
Another option is to use an aftermarket tachometer. I recommend an OBDII one.
I remember looking this up a long time ago. Earlier sport models had some upgrades like ABS, traction control, power windows, locks with a fob, and a tachometer. I have a 2010 sedan that has all those features. Bought it at 68k miles, and now it’s at 268k. It’s been solid.
@Quince
Seems like they gradually added features. My 2007 hatch has a fob, electric windows, and mirrors but no tach, cruise control, or ABS. Out of those, the tach is the one thing I really want.
I’m in the US too. It wasn’t about the year but the trim level. For the 2012-2014 models, the SE trim had a tach, while the L and LE didn’t. The SE also had rear disc brakes, bigger wheels, and some interior upgrades.
Earlier models before 2011 didn’t really follow the same trim system. For example, sedans came with and without tachs, regardless of whether they were automatic or manual.
@Weston
Before 2012, they just called them Base or S models. The S trim was mostly about exterior looks. Accessories like power windows or locks varied.
For the tach, sedans had both options, but hatches in North America didn’t come with them. The sedan and hatch dashboards were different shapes, so you can’t swap between them. Internationally, the hatch was called the Vitz. If you’re searching for parts, try keywords like Vitz, Yaris hatch, and the specific years.
You might also need extra steps to make it work if you find one.
