These prices look totally off… $100 just to replace an air filter?
And I don’t even know what they’re talking about with the other stuff… like fan cleaning?

$57 just to wipe dust off a screen that’s like the dryer vent? That’s insane.

I asked them for a breakdown on what ‘throttle body service’ even is, and they just said they didn’t have anything to explain it
@Wynn
Basically, you’re paying $105 for what’s basically a $7 can of cleaner. Sure, the filter prices are normal for dealerships, but the EVAP? They’re likely just skipping that one.

They were all pushy about it, kept saying these things ‘really, really needed to be done.’ But I’ve got my own filters that I only paid $15 for.
@Wynn
The dealership I used to go to tried selling me filters at my 10k service. It’s all just a joke.

Yeah, it’s wild. Sure, some places with lots of pollen might need more filter changes, but $91 for a cabin filter?
I mean, it’s a $20 part, and it’s just two screws to change it!
@Wynn
You don’t even need screws! Just squeeze the glovebox and drop it down to get to your cabin filter. They’re charging crazy prices for something so easy.
@Wynn
I’ve seen them try to charge $250 just to take out two bolts, spray a $7 can on the MAF sensor, and pop it back in…
@Wynn
I don’t even need screws on mine lol
@Wynn
Good idea to keep spare filters and just swap them yourself to avoid the dealership markup. $91.93 for a $15 filter is a rip-off.
Looks like they’re just trying to squeeze every penny out of you.

A ‘throttle body service’ usually costs more than that. You take off the airbox or hose, clean the throttle body with spray and a brush, and put it back together. Not hard to do on your own, really.

Way more than double. Filters on Amazon go for $10-15.
@Ezri
Watch out for fake filters. These cheap Amazon filters don’t work as well. You’re better off going with known brands like STP or buying straight from the dealer for $20 instead of paying $91.
@Wynn
When I do a throttle body service, I take it off, spray it down with carb cleaner, and put it back. Costs me about $10 and half an hour.
@Wynn
They’re probably just spraying some cleaner in there. Over time, some oily residue can build up, but it’s nothing a quick clean can’t handle.

I’m at 29k miles and getting 39mpg, so I don’t think there’s a major issue yet. That spray isn’t worth $104
@Wynn
Nope. The spray might be $10-20, and the rest is labor. It’s not something you need done until around 100k miles anyway.

Exactly. I’ll wait until 50k miles, at least. It’s just funny they charge so much without even explaining it.
@Wynn
They’re just cleaning the throttle plate. It’s something you can do in 5 minutes with a can of throttle body cleaner. Plenty of guides online.
