Hey all, I need some help. My remote start worked fine on my Tacoma until about 2 weeks ago. Now, it just doesn’t work. I’ve tried both sets of keys, changed the key fob batteries, and even tried different tapping speeds and standing closer. Nothing seems to fix it.
I really don’t want to pay $80/year for the app while I’m still paying off the car. Has anyone else had this problem or know why this suddenly stopped working? I’d really appreciate any advice.
Yeah, it works free from the buttons for a couple years after first use. After that, it needs a subscription, whether you use the app or the fob. The system uses a signal to a satellite, and without an active subscription, it won’t do remote start anymore.
It sounds like your connected services expired. Even the fob connects to the services in newer Toyota systems. You’ll have to pay for Remote Connect services or get an aftermarket remote start installed.
It seems like your Service Connect and Safety Connect trials expired. You need an active trial or subscription for the fob to work. Your data communications module (DCM) is likely no longer active.
Wow, I didn’t realize I’d have to pay extra just for remote start after a couple of years. It’s been about 2 years since we got the truck. Thanks for all the help, everyone!
