Why is insurance for 2023 Toyota Corolla more expensive than 2024 Toyota Corolla? (For my 17-year-old son)

I switched to Geico when I had to find my own insurance, and they gave me the best price on full coverage.

I’ll keep that in mind since I’m in a similar situation. Thanks.

@Spence
But why would the 2023 be more expensive than the 2024? I get that it’s the age of his son driving up the cost, but the 2023 should be cheaper than the 2024.

Rates fluctuate. Depending on what he locked in for the 2023, it might be cheaper for the 2024. It’s odd, but rates can be inconsistent.

@Harper
Don’t get into an accident. Defensive driving helps.

@Harper
Drunk and drugged drivers exist. You can’t prevent all accidents.

@Harper
Get higher life insurance on the kid, and it’ll all even out.

I like the way you think. Outside the box!

Insurance would be next to nothing if they were on a parent’s policy with an older Corolla. A new car is going to be pricey for a new driver no matter what.

@Spence
Then hit them with that $400-a-month liability!

Why are you buying him a brand-new car? You’re murdering him with insurance costs.

I got my ‘09 Corolla brand new as a gift too. It lasted until I upgraded to a ‘23 Hybrid. It depends on how responsible the kid is.

What trim and features does the 2023 have? Could be different trims.

$193 per month for the 2024 Corolla, $501 per month for the 2023 Corolla. It decreases with age, but not by much until age 30. Will the rate go up after a year, or is the 2024 much safer or something?

Rates usually go down after you turn 21. For a new male driver, insurance is expensive. My first car was $1,500, and my insurance was still $120 a month on my parents’ policy.

Probably a mistake in the quotes. The rates should be close.

Something else must be different or there was a mistake in quoting.
