Will a 1998 Prado pass emissions in Portland?

I own a 1998 Prado, which was pretty easy to register in Florida. But now I’m planning to move back to Portland, Oregon, and I’m wondering if it will pass the DEQ tests there. Anyone here with similar experience? Thanks for the help.

Not sure about the emissions, but that’s a great-looking truck .

Looks really clean. I’ve never seen that front design before.

Yeah, it’s kind of odd. Feels like they tried to update the front but didn’t fully commit to it.

I live in Washington County, right near the Yamhill border. Here, we have to get vehicles tested at DEQ unless they’re exempt. My 1998 Hilux (3-litre 5L NA diesel) passed fine. They just tested it using the tailpipe since it doesn’t have an OBD system. The tech told me that’s usually the process for imports.

Nice looking Land Cruiser .

Agreed. It’s a beauty.

I don’t know about the DEQ, but that’s a super clean 1998 Prado. Looks like it’s been really well cared for.

Congrats on the truck! I also own a 1996 Prado TZ. If you’re ever looking for parts, check out partsouq.com. It’s a lifesaver for those unique parts that aren’t shared with Tacomas or 4Runners.

Welcome to Portland in advance! I see a lot of imported vehicles around here, so you’ll probably be okay.

What a great truck. Do you have more pictures to share?

Not sure if it’s OBD2 or not. If there’s no check engine light, you should be fine. If it’s pre-OBD2, they’ll probably do a sniff test.

I have a 1999 model, and it doesn’t have OBD2.

Honestly, just stay in Florida. Less hassle.

The original post seems to have been removed, but if this is about emissions, I’ve heard Portland can be strict. Hope it works out.

I saw a similar thread where people got really touchy over emissions discussions. Someone even brought up Elon Musk and got roasted for liking him. Forums are wild sometimes.

@Ameliascarlet
People probably got upset because someone compared a Cybertruck to a classic Prado. That’s just asking for trouble.

Yeah, Cybertrucks are pretty ugly. Still, no need to bash someone just for having an opinion.

@Ameliascarlet
Well, when that opinion includes praising someone like Elon, who’s been making bad decisions left and right, people are bound to react.

If you don’t like what he does, just don’t buy his products or follow him. Simple as that. Why waste time hating?
