Definitely agree on that first change around 1k miles. Gets rid of all the tiny metal bits from engine break-in.

Because the manufacturer’s recommendations are based on marketing, not max engine longevity. 5k is safer if you’re keeping the car long-term.
I just change it myself. Didn’t wait till 10k. Just save your receipts and jot down the mileage.
