hey y’all, my 1995 corolla with a 1.8L and auto trans suddenly won’t start. it cranks fine but doesn’t actually fire up. fuel pump runs and there’s spark, but no start. i tried spraying starting fluid in the intake and it still didn’t catch. feels like it’s not getting fuel maybe? anyone ever deal with this?
i’d check the timing belt. just cause it cranks and sparks doesn’t mean the timing’s good.

how would i know if the timing belt’s bad? would it still crank?

yeah it’ll crank but not fire if the belt snapped. try pulling the oil cap and watching if the cam turns while cranking.
fuel pump might be running but are the injectors firing? you can have pressure but still no fuel going in.

true, no injector pulse = no fuel. test with a noid light if you got one.

little tool that plugs into the injector connector. it lights up if the ECU’s telling the injector to fire.
could be the crank or cam position sensor. if either of those fails, you’ll get spark sometimes but no injector pulse.

maf sensor ever been cleaned or replaced? mine acted up and wouldn’t start until i swapped it.

pretty sure that year uses a map sensor not maf. might be wrong tho

haven’t done a compression test yet, might have to borrow a gauge and try that next.

yeah do it. no compression = no go even with spark and fuel.
