Hello,

The Toyota manual I have suggests oil changes every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. My dealer, however, recommends a stricter schedule of 3,000 miles or 3 months for city driving.

I am curious to hear what other Toyota owners follow for their oil changes, especially those who primarily drive in the city.

hi this advice would assist you brother Conventional Oil: According to Toyota (Toyota Owners Dashboard), a 2005 Camry’s conventional oil should be changed every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first.
Toyota advises changing synthetic oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, if you use it in your car (Toyota Owners Dashboard).

The whole oil change thing can be confusing. My Toyota manual says 5,000 miles too, but my dealer pushes the 3,000 mile service for city driving. I can see their point though, stop-and-go traffic is rough on a car.

Honestly, I do somewhere in the middle. I mostly drive around town, so I get my oil changed around every 4,000 miles or so. It seems to work well for my car, and it gives me some peace of mind without going overboard.

Curious to hear what others do though, especially city drivers!`

The general guideline is that if it’s fully synthetic, 5K or 6 months should work. Since it wears things out faster, I try to stay away from the modern 10k or 12 months. Contrary to popular belief, there is no harm in starting sooner. Proceed with the 3k or 3 months if that’s how you feel.
