I have a 2007 Camry with a 2.4L engine and 315,000 miles on it. Recently, it has started consuming ignition coils, going through 12 of them in less than 1,000 miles. The issue is always the same: I’ll be driving, and then suddenly lose all power.
The check engine codes indicate problems with all four ignition coils (P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354). All ignition coils fail simultaneously. I replace the old ones with a new set, and the car runs fine for another 100-200 miles before the issue repeats. I suspect there might be a bad ground or possibly an ECU problem. Any ideas?
The automobile we drive has 267,000 kilometers on it. It’s sturdy, but you may have to put in some effort. My in-laws gave us ours, but they didn’t do everything that was required. Inspect the standard components such as CV joints, boots, etc. Ours had a check engine light that they were unable to diagnose, but it disappeared after I changed the brake master cylinder and hoses. They seem to be quite vulnerable to vacuum leakage.
It does not get very good mileage. It is wonderful that it accepts standard unleaded though. My son truly enjoys the automobile that we got for him to practice on.
You sure the coils are bad? When the car stops, have you tried unplugging and plugging them back in to see if it starts again? I’m asking because I think the ECM in Toyotas will stop the engine if it doesn’t get a signal from the confirmation wire IGF.
