2007 Camry Hybrid won't start or enter accessory mode... what’s going on?

Hey everyone, I’m reposting in the right thread this time! So my car has been sitting for over a year without starting, but I’ve put in a new 12V battery. I can lock and unlock the vehicle just fine with the remote key FOB, but when I try to start it, nothing happens. The ENGINE START/STOP button has no power at all, and I can’t get into accessory mode either. Any troubleshooting tips would really help!

Sounds like your traction battery is dead. It probably needs recharging. You can either take it to a dealer or get a grid charger, but if you go to a dealer, you’ll need to tow it there.

Thanks for the quick response! Is there any way to bypass the traction battery lockout to at least start the gas engine and move it out of my garage for the tow?

Before you do anything else, try using a 12V battery at the jump start points under the hood. The 12V battery might be too weak right now.

Good idea! Should I be looking to replace that battery then, or could charging it still work?

If it’s older, definitely consider replacing it. But try charging first—if you can get the 12V to work, it might just do the trick.

Yeah, that 12V is supposed to power the ECM and all the important electronics. If you’ve got a good 12V and nothing powers up, you might be facing another issue.

Ugh, sounds like a headache. I’ll check all the connections and see if something else is wrong. Thanks for the input!

And don’t forget to check the jumper points. If they can’t connect the traction battery, you can be pressing that start button all day and it won’t budge.

If you really get stuck, you could always rent some furniture dollies or jack the wheels up and roll it out. A decent tow truck can handle this situation easily.

Great suggestion! I’ll keep that in mind if I need to get it out of the way. Appreciate all the help!
