2009 Corolla LE: Persistent Lifter Tapping After Timing Chain and Lifter Replacement

Hi, I have a 2009 Corolla LE and just completed a timing chain job, along with replacing the lifters and rockers.

One of the lifters is still tapping despite being replaced with a new one. The oil pressure is about 30 psi at idle, and I’ve changed the oil and filter.

I primed the lifter, and it was quiet for about 3 minutes before the tapping started again. I am at a loss any suggestions? Sorry for the lengthy explanation.

After my own experience with a similar issue on a 2009 Corolla LE, I found that persistent tapping even after replacing the lifters and changing the oil could be due to a few things. It’s possible that the new lifter you installed might be defective or that there’s an issue with oil flow, possibly due to a clogged oil passage or a problem with the oil pump. Sometimes, tapping can also be caused by other components like the rocker arms or camshaft not being adjusted correctly. I’d recommend checking the oil pressure again, inspecting for any blockages, and verifying that all parts are properly installed and functioning. If the problem persists, a thorough inspection by a mechanic might be necessary to pinpoint the exact cause.

Check if the lifter is properly seated. It could also be an oil supply issue or a faulty lifter. Consider rechecking the installation and ensuring consistent oil flow.
