2013 Auris or 2020 Yaris… Which one should I pick?

Hello! I’m currently searching for a good used car and right now i’m torn between a used Auris (Hatch) from 2013 or a used Yaris from 2020. Personally i would like the Yaris more, but i’m curious.

How do both do in reliability and fuel consumption. And is driving/handling good for nearly 230 km’s a day?

Do note the Yaris costs around 3.000 euro more than the Auris.

Go for the Yaris! I’m assuming you’re talking about the Hybrid, but that Auris is already 11 years old. If you can afford a 1-year-old Yaris, get that. The engines last forever, and the 5th gen hybrid is super efficient.

No Hybrid Yaris sadly, here they cost about 19k used. It’s a 1.5 L with a 6-speed.

I have a 2014 Auris 1.8 HSD, and I drive about 34 km a day. It uses about 5.5L/100km. I love the space and comfort, and it drives really nice. My girlfriend has a 2014 1.5HSD Yaris, and the difference is that it’s a lot smaller, so less space and comfort. Fuel usage is almost the same.

I say this with all respect: I really envy people who can comfortably fit in smaller cars.

We Dutch are good at fitting into small spaces!

The Yaris is actually pretty roomy. I’m 1.97m tall, and I can fit 2 adults in the back of my 2006 one. Not sure about the newer ones, but the newer Corolla is also pretty roomy in the back.

The 2010-2015 hybrid Auris isn’t the best choice because of the hybrid 2ZR-FXE engine (it’s the same as in the Prius and CT200). Google ‘2ZR-FXE head gasket failure.’ The 2016+ hybrid Auris is much more reliable if you take care of it. If you want more comfort, look at the CT200 or the 2018+ hybrid Corollas. The Yaris doesn’t compare to the Auris or Corolla in comfort or smoothness; you’ll feel it during a test drive.

I’ve had the 2023 Yaris, so I know a bit about it. I’ve never had the Auris, though. The Yaris is very reliable and fuel-efficient. It handles well in corners, and depending on the rim size, it’s comfortable for long trips. I had 17-inch rims, and I wouldn’t recommend them since they’re a bit hard. The sport seats were really good. I drove 230 km a day with no problem. That’s all I can tell you about it.

2020, First Edition, 1.5 L with a 6-speed.

Nice choice! I had the hybrid with 116 hp, and it was quick for that power. The regular 1.5 with 125 hp is cheaper and doesn’t have the hybrid system, so it’ll be more reliable with no batteries or mild hybrid.

The Yaris is a big upgrade over the Auris.

Buy a high-mileage Hilux or Tacoma if you can afford it.

That’s terrible advice. The person is from the Netherlands.
