I picked up a 2014 Tundra SR 4WD double cab recently. It’s got 170k miles and seems to be in good condition. What do you all think? Was it a solid deal at this mileage? Here’s a pic of it:
At 170k mi it really just depends on how well it has been maintained over the past decade. It’s fairly average in the price range leaning towards the high end for a 170k mi SR. That being said if you enjoy it and you didn’t have to stretch yourself thin for it then it’s well worth it, because it’s a solid truck and a proven powertrain.
@Cade
It was a 2-owner. First owner put 150k miles on it in 6 years and had it serviced routinely (has 38 service records). The second owner barely drove it (20k miles in 4 years). It runs and drives much better than my 1st Gen with 302k miles! Price point - I agree. It’s mid as far as suggested price. But inventory on trucks at this price point is competitive. It just happened to be at the dealership while my 2006 is having the steering rack replaced. Paid cash, and will be selling the 2006 once it’s out of the shop.
Nice! Picked up the same in white with a camper shell.
I’d say you did great. I paid twice that for a 2018 double cab long bed with 60k miles and a lifetime warranty on trans and engine. Really hard to find the long beds and people want a premium for them. How rusty is the frame? Might want to get that treated too, especially if it was a Canadian import.
@Mitchelle
The frame has just minor surface rust with some of the welds a little more concerning. I plan to sand, prime, and paint with Rust-Oleum. I’m having the underbody and frame coated at the same time as the bed liner and also doing the rockers since it’s all black anyway. Excited to see how it turns out and hopefully prevents future corrosion.
@Sadie
Hell yeah dude, doing it the right way. You’ll be golden. Awesome deal on a truck that’ll last forever, nice work.

Appreciate it. I’ve driven a very rusty 1st Gen for several years now and also wished they would have saved the truck by putting a little work into preventing the corrosion. The next question I might ask later are some wheel/tire setup ideas. Don’t care much for the steelies and think bronze wheels would look great, but don’t want oversized wheels or anything extreme. I like to keep my vehicles as OEM as possible.
@Sadie
Yeah, was in the same boat, but my first gen had a brand new frame. I couldn’t deal with the double cab doors on it though, and some guy paid cash for over what I had into it, couldn’t say no. Those first gens are awesome, wish they’d come back in some way. Small truck with a V8 is hard to beat. I’ve got the same color SR with same wheels, so we’re in the same boat. Here’s a good link to know what tires will fit stock: https://www.tundras.com/threads/official-tundra-wheel-and-tire-setups-pics-and-info.95/. I’m looking at either used SR5 / TRD wheels or Method 701s. The Methods come in a bronze so might be worth taking a look at.
@Mitchelle
Awesome, thanks!
