2018 XLE Battery Replacement Cost

My Highlander needs a new battery soon, and since it has the stop/start feature, it needs a specific battery type. The dealership quoted me $625 for a replacement, but looking online, similar batteries are going for around $300. Is the dealership price reasonable considering the warranty, or is it way too high? Any advice would be appreciated.

Get an AGM battery from Costco or an auto parts store and install it yourself. Make sure to get one with a decent warranty—things aren’t made to last like they used to.

Costco sells AGM batteries for about $180—definitely the best option. Don’t get a non-AGM battery; the stop/start system will wear it out quicker than normal.

That dealership price is way too high. Just buy a battery from a local auto parts store that’s running a sale, and they’ll usually install it for free.

I just bought a well-reviewed AGM battery from Napa for $230 for my 2017. I’d never go back to that dealership after seeing their $625 price.

You need a Group 25F AGM battery. Check prices with and without install, depending on what you’re comfortable doing.

AGM batteries are a must for the Highlander Hybrid. Autozone has them for around $350, while the dealership price usually starts at $500.

I replaced mine last week; got it at Costco for $249.99 CAD. The dealership was asking for $449.99. Go the Costco route!

Check out Sam’s Club, Costco, or BJ’s—they’ve got batteries for way less!

I looked up the warranty info for my 2022 Highlander, and it’s a 48-month prorated warranty on the battery. Make sure your dealership applies that warranty when you’re replacing it.

Don’t bother with the dealership. I have the same 2018 XLE with stop/start (non-hybrid). I replaced my battery recently with an AGM from Advance Auto, cost me about $180 after discounts. Make sure to use a battery saver or jumper to keep settings while swapping, or the start/stop might need to be reprogrammed at the dealer. Hope this helps!

That dealership price is a rip-off. Walmart also has AGM batteries for about $180 with a 4-year replacement warranty.

AAA offers good prices on batteries with installation, and you don’t have to be a member. If you are, you get an even better price.

Replaced my OEM Panasonic 12V with an AGM from Costco. It fit but was slightly taller, so I had to trim the plastic cover a bit. Be mindful of vent holes—sometimes you’ll need to adjust those to fit properly.

If it’s not a hybrid, I don’t think he has a battery under his seat :man_shrugging:
