2019 Camry SE transmission failed, dealer says no parts for months?

So my Camry’s transmission gave out completely. Dealer says it’s an electrical failure and needs a full replacement.

At first, they told me they had 14 on backorder and it would take about a month. Now a month has passed, and when I called for an update, they said it’s going to take 2-3 more months because there are no transmissions available anywhere in the country.

I was planning to move across the country in March, but without a car, I have to put everything on hold.

Has anyone been stuck in this situation before? I thought about asking the dealer if they’d take it as a trade-in, but I’d be giving up my 2% interest rate for a 5.4% one. Also, I don’t know how they’d value a car that can’t even be sold for months.

Yeah, those transmissions are on a huge backorder. We’ve had cars stuck for months waiting on them.

That’s frustrating. Did they give you any workarounds or alternatives?

This is why I stick to hybrids with eCVT. Way more reliable.

Pretty sure the Camry only has one transmission option unless you get the hybrid.

Exactly, the hybrid models use an eCVT, and those things last forever. The 2025 models will all be hybrids, so they won’t have these issues.

The regular 8-speed and CVT setups have had too many failures because of how they’re built.

You might want to check out the Toyota Platinum VSA. I got mine for $1360 for 10 years or 100k miles. Might help avoid issues down the road.
