Trying to decide between the 2025 Tacoma SR and TRD. It’s a tough choice—any thoughts?
Do you want a rear locker or not?

He’s talking about the SR, so no.

He didn’t mention if he’s looking at the Sport or Off-Road.
SR5 is the best middle ground. Better shocks, better interior, more options, and a stronger engine.
I’m going with an SR5 and adding accessories myself. I’ll get exactly what I want for less than a TRD and have a unique setup.
I bought a 2024 SR. I wanted a solid 4WD truck that can haul and tow, but I don’t need all the off-road extras. Saved about $10k too.
The SR is basically the work-truck trim, but if you add 4WD, it’ll handle just fine.
Biggest differences:
- Detuned engine (228 hp vs. 278 hp on higher trims)
- Steel wheels instead of alloys
Comes down to how much you want to spend.

I heard God always drove a TRD.

Leaving this one right here
I wanted all the extras—heated and cooled seats, bigger screen, cameras—so I got the TRD Sport Premium.

Same, but let’s not pretend it doesn’t cost as much as a second small car compared to the base models. If budget matters, the Sport Premium is nice but not a must-have. The only things I really couldn’t go without are the cameras and upgraded sound system. The rest is just comfort features.
That said, seat cooling is awesome in hot climates, but the A/C is already blasting before I even pull out, so it’s whatever.
That’s why I went with the TRD Sport. No locker, but you still get 4WD, upgraded suspension, and that hood scoop.
SR5 was the sweet spot for me—good looks, solid features, without paying for things I’ll never use.
Only regret? The used one I found didn’t have climate control. Never had it before, but I really wanted it. Still, it came with a Leer bed cap and a bunch of factory upgrades like mudguards and side steps, so I went for it.
SR5 with the cold weather and upgrade package was the way to go for me.
Not gonna lie, the SR’s interior is kinda ugly.
