Hey everyone, just a heads-up! If you’ve been having problems with the factory radio on your 3rd gen Tacoma, you can update the firmware yourself. All you need is a flash drive with at least 8GB of storage formatted to FAT32. You can get the update files and instructions straight from Toyota’s website. I can only post one link, so here’s where you can find the downloads: Home | Toyota Software
Did you notice any changes after the update?

Yeah, I did. The radio seems to run a lot smoother now, especially with apps like Waze or when scrolling through Spotify. Before, I used to get random screen blackouts, and the music or navigation would cut out. It was also pretty laggy overall. Those issues haven’t come back since I updated.
Do you use Alexa with yours? It worked when I had an Android, but after switching to an iPhone, I couldn’t get Entune to connect. I’ve just been using Spotify instead. I have a '17 model without JBL if that makes a difference.

I don’t use Alexa either; it never worked for me, so I’ve been sticking with Spotify too. The Alexa and Scout GPS apps have been unreliable since I got the truck new. I think Toyota stopped supporting them. But if you haven’t updated the head unit at all since you bought your truck, the new firmware should help make it run smoother. That’s what happened with my '22.

Weird that it doesn’t do updates over the air or through a phone connection. I guess I’ll give the USB update a shot!

I think it’s because the update file is too big. The latest one was around 292MB, and it took about 10 minutes to install. Plus, it asks you to turn the engine off and back on to finish the update, so that would probably be tricky to do over the air.
I’ve been checking that site for updates all the time, but nothing ever shows up for my 2023.

It’s probably because you’ve got the last year of the 3rd gen, so it already came with the latest firmware from the factory.
