Thinking about getting a new off-road SUV and torn between the 2025 4Runner and the Land Cruiser. I know both are solid, but how do they actually compare when it comes to off-roading? Anyone got thoughts?
Both are great, but the Land Cruiser has full-time 4WD while the 4Runner uses part-time 4WD. If you’re gonna be on rough terrain a lot, full-time 4WD might be better.

What’s the diff between full-time and part-time 4WD?
@CathyGenesis
Full-time 4WD means power is always going to all four wheels. Part-time lets you switch between 2WD and 4WD, which can save gas but isn’t as good for constant rough terrain.
The 4Runner Trailhunter has some serious off-road upgrades, like a lifted suspension and steel skid plates. It’s more built for hardcore off-roading compared to the base Land Cruiser.
Land Cruiser’s got the same hybrid engine as the 4Runner but is a little heavier. If you want more power-to-weight ratio, the 4Runner might be better on trails.
I’d go 4Runner if you want more off-road-focused trims like TRD Pro or Trailhunter. But if you want something more daily-driver friendly with luxury, Land Cruiser is the way to go.

Yeah, Land Cruiser is a little more refined, right? Not as rough on-road?
@Rav4Rider
Exactly. It’s got better ride quality and more creature comforts. Still off-road capable but more balanced for everyday use.
If you don’t care about luxury and just want a beastly off-roader, the 4Runner Trailhunter is probably the best option. It’s literally built for hitting the trails hard.
