About to go on a 3000km trip with my 2023 Yaris. Any tips?

I’m planning a long trip from Vienna to Paris and back with my wife and parents in a few weeks. A little worried that 4 adults + luggage for such a long distance is a little overwhelming for the Yaris, but happy to be wrong.

Also, any tips/thoughts on traveling such a distance on the Yaris? I know, probably, the space might be a little problem for those on a back seat, but if that is the only problem, I think we can manage.

The car just got its second-year maintenance, oil change, and all.

Tires? Brakes? Spare parts?

New tires, brakes checked during the maintenance, have a spare wheel :automobile:

What about a repair kit for something gone bad with the radiator…like hose sealing tape?
Also, what about a dead battery jumper, and portable air inflator?
Lastly, do you have tools for repairs? Even if you aren’t doing it, the person who helps can use them. Check out this video:

And with a wife…don’t forget to pack chocolate! :wink:

You’re welcome. Safe journeys! Let us know how she (the car) holds up!

Get a spare tire. If you don’t have one, get tire patches and a portable inflator. Other than that, you will give up before the car does. I go once a year on a 4000km round trip. Did it once with a 2007 Yaris. No worries whatsoever. The car would still be happy if the trip was 10x longer.

I can’t recommend the portable tire inflator enough. I’ve only used it a few times over the years, but it’s definitely saved me. Definitely worth it considering how affordable they are (and how expensive tires are).

@Clove
Yup. Along with tire plugs. Both can save the day very cheaply.

@CYNTIAH
Reassuring, thanks!

It’s one of the most reliable cars on the road. Just check your 12V battery and have some consumables with you. Stick to the right lane (where applicable). You’ll be fine. For extra peace of mind, get a road assistance package if you don’t have one.

@Blend
Shouldn’t Toyota’s 3-year roadside assistance still be in play for a 2023 model?

Coverage varies from country to country. This is in Europe, and he’ll be passing several different countries.

How do you handle luggage? I’m thinking of a top rack, but not sure because the space is pretty limited for 2 large suitcases and more.

We’ll have two 20kg suitcases and one 10kg suitcase + one or two bags that will go in the cabin if they don’t fit in the back. I’m a skilled Tetris player, so hopefully, everything will fit. But can’t say I’m not worried about it!
