Any decent budget forced induction kits out there?

I’ve been hunting around for a forced induction setup for my 08 5.7L Tundra, but everything decent starts at five grand or more, which feels way too high for the gains they claim. I paid three grand for a CX Racing turbo kit on my SC300 and it made way more power than it did stock. Is there any way to get a good bump in power for maybe three to four grand? I’ll be doing the work myself, so I’m not worried about labor. Any advice helps.

Going cheap on forced induction usually turns into a mess down the road. There’s a reason those kits cost what they do.

That’s because barely anyone makes these kits, so they just jack the price up since there’s no real competition.

Yeah, the costs are high because they don’t sell many kits, so the development costs don’t get spread out. It’s way cheaper to make stuff when you’re selling a ton of it. But hey, feel free to try some eBay knockoff turbos and let us know how it goes.

@Clancy
What I’m saying is I got way more horsepower with the SC300 for a lot less money. That motor has tons of turbo options from real companies, so you can find stuff cheap. The Tundra’s more popular overall, but good luck finding an affordable kit. I just want a setup that doesn’t cost more than selling my truck and buying another one that already has boost.

@Lexus_Mania
The SC300 has a 2JZ, right? That engine was built to handle boost, especially the turbo version. So of course the aftermarket support is better and cheaper. Comparing that to the Tundra’s V8 isn’t really fair—it’s a totally different situation.

Why not just grab the TRD Magnuson supercharger and run some 750cc injectors?

Because the price is just stupid high.

Might as well grab some knockoff turbos and see what happens then.

Check Facebook Marketplace, I’ve seen TRD setups go for around 2K. Toyota already figured out the hard part for you.

Doesn’t matter how cheap your last kit was. Tundras only really have supercharger kits available. That’s just how it is. Either buy a used one if you can find it or try to build a DIY turbo setup. That’s all you can really do.

If you’re trying to save money, forced induction probably isn’t the best idea. Doing it right always costs more, plus you’ll need to run premium fuel too.

What’s the reason you want more power—quicker acceleration or towing performance?

Mostly for fun—street pulls, off-roading, and I mess around with drifting too.
