Finally picked up my first Tundra—a 2025 SR5—and it absolutely rocks. I’m looking to add step ups now and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Also thinking about installing them myself to avoid paying for labor.
I like the predator steps—they have that rugged look. Only downside is the narrow spot for your foot. Tube steps are more common but can get slick after a few years, whereas predator steps have built-in metal grip.
@Frankie
Another vote for predator steps. I had tubes before and switched—much happier now. Even with the limited step area, it’s placed perfectly and works well. Plus they don’t trap mud and gunk underneath like the tubes, way easier to clean off.
@Frankie
I’ve got the predator steps too and honestly I hate them. Getting in is okay but stepping out is super awkward, especially if you’re in a hurry.
Installing them yourself is totally doable. No jack needed. Just pull the factory bolts (they’re like dummy plugs), use the bolts from your new step kit in those same spots. Tighten everything once it’s all lined up—bars to brackets, brackets to truck. I wouldn’t recommend the ones I picked, not a fan. Use anti-seize on bolts to the truck and lock tight for the bar bolts. I’ve done 3 different sets now, all had labels on the brackets to help. It might sound like a lot, but it’s pretty simple.
@Broderick
I’ve had Westin, iBoard, and Rough Country. Out of all those, the iBoard style was my favorite.
I tried a few different ones but ended up taking them off—I just didn’t like the look. If I had the cash, I’d go for the motorized retractables, but they’re over $1500. If you’re going with regular sidesteps, definitely install them yourself. The Rhino RB20 Slims and RB30 Slims were my top picks in terms of style.
Just put on some Go Rhino RB20s yesterday. Loving them so far!
I went with these from Tyger Auto:

Got some for my Tacoma before, then upgraded and bought again for the Tundra. I sold the stock ones to help pay for these. They’ve held up well.
RCI Metalworks sliders. Super solid option if you’re planning to take it off-road.
Had factory running boards on my '22 and hated them—way too tucked under. Almost slipped off a few times. Switched to aftermarket predator steps on my ‘25 and they’re way better. Super easy to get in and out now.
Only thing is, I noticed a bit more noise on dirt roads—not a problem on pavement though.
Install took me around 30 mins per side, laying on the ground.
Also added an aftermarket bed step. Harder to install (tight space), but totally worth it.
Go Rhino RB20 Slims all the way. Look great, not too bulky, and super simple install. Took me under an hour.
