Any ideas on swapping the engine and transmission in my 2019 CHR? … can a 2JZ fit?

I’m getting tired of how sluggish my 2019 CHR feels and I’m thinking it might be time to swap out the engine and transmission for something with more power. I know this might be a stretch, but is it possible to fit a 2JZ in the engine bay? What do you think?

A 2JZ is not going to fit without some serious modifications. Plus, how are you going to convert it to RWD? You can’t use it with the current FWD setup.

I’ve thought about similar upgrades before and I’m honestly leaning towards a Honda K series.

@Robe
I’ve had the car for a few months now, and I’m not really happy with it. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to convert it to RWD?

Did you try putting it in sports mode? I have one too, and I need to change mine as well.

@Bela
There’s a sports mode?

@Bela
Yeah, I use it often, but it still feels a bit slow. I like to live a little faster, you know.

Honestly, I’m not sure this is the right platform for these kinds of upgrades.

I know, but it’s the only car I’ve got for now.

You’re probably better off keeping it stock and hoping the transmission lasts. Those years are known to have some issues.

@Mia
I’ll need to swap it eventually, so I might as well get it done now.

If it’s your only car, maybe don’t modify it too much. You’ll be spending more time fixing it than driving it.

The powertrain from the Corolla GR could work for you.

Do you think I could get over 300hp out of it?

The Corolla GR already comes with 300hp from the factory :racing_car:

I’d be concerned about that CVT lasting. My friend has a 2018 CHR, and the transmission is failing at 70k.

When I bought mine, it had 114k miles, most of which were highway miles.

What’s actually wrong with the transmission? How gutless is the car? I’m thinking about getting a CHR instead of a SSV Commodore. The Commodore is too low for my knees :joy:

The car is pretty reliable, I just want it to be quicker. It gets up to speed well and has a decent height.

@Lex
Thanks for the info. I love the shape of the CHR and was curious about its performance. I’m used to driving a V8.

It’ll feel a bit slower at first, but you’ll get used to it after some time.
