Any News on a Possible V6 Tacoma Release?

Hey everyone! I’m curious if there’s been any official word from Toyota about bringing back a V6 Tacoma? I’ve heard mixed things about the new 2.4 engine, and while I’m interested in the new Tacomas, I’m on the fence about whether I should wait for a possible V6 option.

If anyone has any insights on whether a V6 Tacoma could be worth waiting for or if Toyota’s committed to sticking with the 4-cylinder engines for good, I’d appreciate it!

Toyota swapped out the old V6 for the turbo 4-cylinder, and that’s likely the future for the Tacoma. Once they introduce an engine with a model, they usually stick with it for that whole generation.

Nope.

@Amari
So you’re saying there’s a chance?

They’ve been making Tacomas with V6 engines for decades. Where have you been?

Nope. I’m just waiting for my engine to go so I can do an LS swap.

If you really want a V6, you should look at the Ford Ranger.

Or consider an older Tacoma with low mileage.

True, if you’re okay with a 12-year-old truck. But if you’re in the market for new, the Ranger has the 2.7 V6 turbo as an option.

Toyota put a lot of resources into developing the new 4-cylinder and hybrid powertrains to replace the V6. There’s almost no chance they’ll go back to a V6.

They showed a Tacoma concept at SEMA last year with the Tundra’s twin-turbo V6, but it’s probably never going to be produced.

Still cool to know it could fit!

The only way this might happen is if they used the Lexus/Tundra/Sequoia twin-turbo V6. They could call it the ‘TRD Xtra Pro Taco Edition’—but let’s be real, Toyota’s not doing that.

Doubt it’ll ever happen. The 4-cylinder is here to replace the 6-cylinder.
