Anyone dealt with code C1319 on a Gen 2 Prius?

I’ve got a 2005 Prius with 300k miles, and I’m seeing the C1319 code. No other codes are showing up, but the brakes feel off. I don’t seem to have any electronic braking power, and there are warning lights for ABS and VSC. Has anyone seen this before? Any advice?

It could be a stroke sensor issue. The C1319 code usually points to the brake stroke simulator. Have you checked the connections? Sometimes it’s just the wiring or the skid control ECU.

I haven’t gotten that far yet. I ordered a new skid control ECU from eBay but haven’t installed it yet. Think that’ll fix it?

It might. But before you go swapping parts, have you tried checking the brake actuator and seeing if there’s any physical issues with the brake system? Could be something simple like a stuck caliper.

I had this same problem on my 2008 Prius! Turned out it was a brake stroke sensor issue. Dealer quoted me $500, but I reset the ABS with a paperclip (pin 4 and pin 13 on the diagnostic port), and the problem went away. Worth trying before spending money.

@Arlo
That’s a good tip, thanks! I’ll try the paperclip trick before I start spending too much. Did the problem ever come back?

@Arlo
Nope, still running fine at 325k miles! Give it a shot.

If the right brake rotor is rusting and not cleaning off with braking, that might be a sign the caliper is stuck. Have you jacked up the car and tried turning the wheel while pressing the brakes?

Not yet, but I’ll try that. The braking does feel like it’s all manual right now, so maybe something’s stuck. Thanks for the suggestion.

You mentioned no regen braking either, right? That could mean the skid control ECU is out of whack. Did you get any subcodes along with the C1319?

I didn’t check for subcodes yet. I’ll hook it up to Techstream and see if anything else pops up. Thanks for the heads-up!

I replaced the skid control ECU on my Prius, and it wasn’t too bad. Just a few tricky nuts to get to. If you’re handy with tools, you can probably handle it. Just remember to calibrate it afterward using Techstream.

@nelly
Yeah, I heard about those tricky nuts! I’ll give it a shot, but I might try the paperclip reset first before swapping out parts.
