Anyone else having trouble with automatic braking?

Anyone else having issues with the auto braking? It’s triggered on me three times now. First was backing up to a railing at work—knew exactly where it was, but the truck slammed on the brakes. The other times, nothing was even close; once, a guy walked behind me while I was reversing, but he was about 10 feet away. The noise it makes when it kicks in is awful, like I actually hit something. Anyone else dealing with this?

Yes, it drives me nuts. I also hate when my truck asks if I need a coffee break.

Is there any way to turn off that coffee break suggestion? It’s so annoying.

Try turning off lane assist.

@Brooks
I never use lane assist anyway, can’t stand it.

Asked my dealer about it last time, and they said it can’t be turned off.

If you stop and turn the truck off during a trip, it usually resets the coffee break alert.

Had it happen on a trip recently. I was in traffic, doing about 80 along with everyone else, and it suddenly braked out of nowhere. Thought I was gonna crash.

That’s crazy! Mine has only ever done it at low speeds in reverse, thankfully.

@Thorn
It’s normal, mine has done it a few times too. If you need to turn it off when maneuvering, there’s a button on the dash near the steering column with a car and cone icon. Pressing that disables the alarm and emergency braking.

Can’t help much, but mine has only gone off when I was actually touching something like a shrub or tight spots. It could be your sensors aren’t aligned properly.

Might be, planning to bring it up at my next service. Does your truck actually brake when it says ‘brake’?

@Thorn
Mine does when backing up to a bush at work, but I can keep moving slowly until it stops again near a wall.

Yep, it’ll freak out but then I can keep backing up slowly until it finds another obstacle or, you know, I hit something.

@Thorn
Yeah, mine only does it when it’s basically touching something. I know you can disable it, but I get the feeling that’s not what you’re looking for.

I haven’t had it happen 10 feet away, but mine goes off if I’m near small plants or branches. The noise it makes is terrifying, makes you think you hit something.

Exactly! That noise scared me so much, I’d rather not ever hear that again.

Happened to me once when a bird flew by as I was backing up… that was fun.

Mine would constantly see parked cars or random stuff and slam on the brakes. Nearly caused accidents, especially when towing. No permanent disable option in the settings, so I put a small black piece of plastic between the camera and windshield to block it.

My 2018 has done this a few times. Bought it new and haven’t looked much into it since it’s so rare.
