Lost my second hubcap this year on my 2020 Impreza thanks to potholes. Is this normal or am I just cursed? Lol.
Wait… they were still putting hubcaps on cars in 2020?

Unfortunately, yes.

Yep, base model Impreza still comes with steel wheels and hubcaps. In Canada, even the base Outback has them.

Can confirm… I have the base Outback in Canada. I just took the hubcaps off because they looked worse than the steel wheels. Now every summer people ask why I still have my winter tires on. Lol.

If you have steel wheels, they just slap hubcaps on them by default.
Just grab some cheap OEM alloy wheels off Facebook or Craigslist. Or just embrace the steelies.
Same here. I’m just gonna hit the junkyard when it warms up and grab some wheels off another Subaru. Should cost about $100 for a set.
Were these the original hubcaps or aftermarket ones? Aftermarket ones tend to pop off more. If you’re thinking about replacing them, might be better to just find a used set of alloy wheels on eBay, Craigslist, or at a junkyard. If you take the time to clean and repaint them, they can look pretty good. I’ve always just used black steel wheels for winter tires, no hubcaps. Found a set of Mazda Snowflake rims for $80, and they’ve held up well for two winters.

They were the original ones that came with the car. Bought it brand new.

Yeah, they usually stay on unless the wheel flexes from potholes. If you have a winter and summer set of wheels, just leave the steel ones for winter. Most people don’t care about hubcaps in the winter anyway. A new set of OEM hubcaps costs around $260 up here in Canada.
This has been a thing since hubcaps were invented… they’ve always had a habit of disappearing.
I’ve had to trim the plastic on aftermarket hubcaps to stop them from popping off. I cut small arcs around the inner ring, and after that, they stay put.
Just leave them off. Problem solved.
Lost one in 2010, then I started using zip ties. Never lost another one.

That works… until you have to change a flat on a freezing, rainy night.

On my old car, I could still access the lug nuts with the hubcaps on, so I never had to take them off when swapping between summer and winter tires.
@Pat
Ah, one of those rare designs where that actually works.
Hubcaps are annoying, but still cheaper than the three rims I’ve had to replace after hitting potholes. Lol.
Just paint the steel wheels white and slap on some chrome beauty rings. Then at least people will think you’re making a style choice instead of just being broke. Lol.
