Just got my renewal for the next six months and it’s jumped by $100. I called my insurance agent to check if it had anything to do with an accident I was in last year. A drunk driver ran a light while I was working and driving a company vehicle. I wasn’t at fault, didn’t get a ticket, and my company’s lawyer handled everything, but State Farm still kept reaching out to me about it.
Called my agent today, and they say the increase is because Outbacks are more expensive to fix now. Nothing to do with my accident, apparently.
Has anyone else seen a big jump in their Outback insurance lately? Wondering if this is just me or if rates are going up for everyone.
For context: I’m 57, driving a 2018 2.5L Outback. My policy limits are 100k/300k/100k. Last six months cost me $450, now it’s $520.
Insurance goes up a little every year, but $100 in six months seems like a lot. Have you checked with an independent agent? They can shop around and usually find better rates, and it doesn’t cost you anything.

Yeah, I was expecting some increases, but I’ve never had a ticket or an accident either.
Mine creeps up about $30-40 every renewal, even without claims. After a few years, it’s worth shopping around for a better deal. The only claim I’ve ever had was a windshield replacement, and they still increased my rate like they do every year.
I have Allstate and mine went up 10-15%. My parents’ policies with a different company went up almost 20%. State Farm gave me a quote, and it was three times what I’m paying now. The agent blamed it on my state’s insurance rules, but Progressive told me the same thing.

I’m in New Jersey and mine is nearly $996 for six months, no accidents, no tickets. Your rate sounds pretty good to me.
Same here. Clean record, 2020 Outback, and I’m paying $171 a month with Progressive. Sticking with them for now because of some loyalty perks, but I’m considering switching to USAA.
Almost every major insurance company is paying out more in claims than they’re taking in. That’s why rates are going up across the board. It’s not just you.
I’m in Michigan, and my rates are much higher than that. I pay $720 every six months for my 2019 Outback. My agent says when I switch to a 2024 model, my rate will actually drop by $10.

Same here. I thought rates would go down after our state stopped being no-fault, but it didn’t make much difference.
Been with Progressive for ten years, and my rates were always going down. But after I moved an hour south, my rate jumped up. Then my latest renewal added another $200 a year. So much for loyalty rewards.
State Farm doubled my rates over stuff that shouldn’t have affected me. My parked car got hit, but somehow the claim ended up on my record. Another time, someone crashed into my husband’s work trailer, which didn’t even get damaged, but it still showed up. I asked my agent about it, and they just told me there were ‘tiny increases’ for those things. I got fed up and switched back to Progressive. State Farm looks for any excuse to raise rates.
Mine went up 10%, now I’m paying $105 a month. I keep meaning to call my agent about it but keep putting it off. It’s weird because every car I’ve owned before, my insurance always went down slightly over time.
