Anyone else switching things up for summer camping?

With those tires you’re rocking, I think you’ll need traction boards real soon lol

Yep totally agree. I can’t stand them honestly. Tires are next. Everyone keeps saying these stock wildpeaks wear out quick, so I won’t feel bad tossing them once they’re shot.

@Raven
If you’re not dealing with deep mud or snow often, you might get by just fine. A buddy of mine has a 3rd gen with similar tires and he goes most places I do—he just struggles more in heavy snow. I can’t speak much on mud though.

@Flippa
Yeah, mud is the issue here. I live up in the White Mountains in New Hampshire and it’s full-on mud season until June. They weren’t terrible in the snow honestly, but I ran KO2s on my old FJ and these don’t even come close.

I think those tires will probably get the job done. Most stuff won’t stop them and if they do, the 4th gen’s system will probably help get you out.

I would’ve done it the same way—get all the extras sorted out first, then move to tires. Depending on where you’re headed, you might not even need to change them for a while.

What tent are you using in that pic? I’m hoping to buy one by the end of this month.

It’s the Roof Space 2. I was torn between that and the Roam Vagabond soft shell since both would fit my 5’ bed and still give good room inside. I picked this one since I wanted to use the roof for a cargo box or paddle boards. If you want more space, you could look at something like an iKamper or FSR with a full-height rack.

I just got my 2024 and I’m using the Tuff Stuff Alpha. Noticed the back end sags a little… how did you fix that?

Mine hasn’t sagged yet. My tent is 147 lbs and I haven’t filled the road shower yet—so that 58 pounds of water might change things. What trim did you get on your 2024?
