It’s awesome to see the GR platform being used in racing. I’m curious how much of the drivetrain is similar to the ones we have.

From what I know, most TC cars have stock drivetrains, but with a sequential gearbox added. Depends on the new rules coming this year.
Edit: The images seem to show an H-pattern gearbox, though.
@Bell
Are they running the AWD system? I doubt it lasts more than 12 minutes unless they make some serious changes.

There’s actually a 3rd party that made a transfer case cooler to solve the rear diff overheating issue. Toyota should really take note and make something like it for their cars.
@WildWildWest
That’s not what’s causing the problem, according to ‘goose man.’ It’s not about thermal issues. And no way a factory race car is using random aftermarket parts.
Just like BMW factory teams aren’t running random parts from tuners, these guys aren’t slapping a transfer cooler from some third-party onto their car.
@Kimberly
Took me a minute to realize who ‘goose man’ was lol. It’s weird they can’t find a solution. The cooler seemed promising but I noticed in their demo they were also running an aftermarket AWD controller. If that played a part in preventing overheating, the demo feels kinda misleading.
@Bell
Looks like it’s got an auto shifter. Might be similar to the Audi RS3, which uses the EA888 engine and DSG gearbox.
I was really wondering if they’d jump in! The Elantra N was dominating most races. Could see them racing in the silver class, where the M2 won. Next year is going to be exciting for sure!
Do you think it’ll go faster than 85 mph?
Imagine if this made it to iRacing. Would love that.
Would love to take it for a spin!

I have a Corolla hatch with two-tone paint, kinda close to this haha
The big question… can it hit 85 mph?

Same thing I was wondering.
Drive it over 85 mph and say goodbye to your warranty

It’s funny how only one person has had their warranty voided for going over 85 mph in a GR. Pretty sure more than one person is doing it though.
@Oak
Actually, two people had their warranty claims denied. It’s strange. Would love to see them honor more claims because the way Toyota denies them makes it seem like it’s easy to void any warranty request. Saying the tires can’t safely go over 85 mph is a bit ridiculous, but that was their argument.
@Oak
The denial wasn’t even directly about the speed. They just said the guy was thrashing the car based on the data and it was worded badly.

This topic is getting old. Move on already.
