Anyone got solid winter driving tips?

winter driving can be rough, especially when roads get icy. i figured it’d be good to share some tips and see what works for others. i always keep my tires properly inflated and drive slower than usual, but i still get nervous on black ice. any other good tricks to stay safe?

biggest thing for me is keeping more distance between cars. ppl drive way too close in bad weather.

for real. i always see ppl tailgating like it’s dry roads… then bam, they slide off.

yeah, braking takes way longer on ice. keeping distance is key.

idk if ppl do this but i always start in second gear when it’s super icy. helps with traction a lot.

yeah, if you have a manual or even some automatics let you start in second. less torque means less wheel spin on ice.

make sure to clear all the snow off your car, not just the windows. flying snow from roofs is dangerous.

omg yes. had a sheet of ice fly off a truck in front of me once. almost cracked my windshield.

keep an emergency kit in the car. blankets, flashlight, snacks… you never know when you might get stuck.

good call. i keep a small shovel and some kitty litter for traction too.

if you start skidding, steer into the skid and don’t slam the brakes. easier said than done but it helps.

basically if the back of your car slides left, turn your wheel left until you regain control. just don’t overcorrect.
