Hey everyone, I’ve got a 2010 Toyota RAV4, and I’m dealing with a couple of codes, P2420 and C1201. Any idea what could be causing these or how I can fix them? Not super experienced with this, so any advice is appreciated!
P2420 is usually linked to the EVAP system’s vent valve getting stuck open. On the RAV4, it’s part of the charcoal canister near the fuel tank at the back.

Thanks for that! So replacing the charcoal canister would fix it?
@SharonCarter
Yeah, replacing it should clear up that code. Toyota actually had a service bulletin on this exact problem, so you’re not alone.
What about the C1201 code? Isn’t that one related to the engine control?

Yep, C1201 is kind of a secondary code that just means the ABS is detecting an issue in the engine system. It should clear out once you fix P2420.
Don’t worry too much about C1201—it’s basically the car saying it noticed the other issue. Fix the EVAP problem first, and it’ll likely disappear.

Good to know! I was worried it might mess with the ABS or traction control.
@SharonCarter
Nah, it just trips because of the other code. ABS and traction should be fine once you clear the main issue.
Do you have another code besides those two? I had a P0102 once that threw my whole system off.

Yeah, I actually got a P0102 too! Any idea if it’s related or where to find the sensor?
@SharonCarter
P0102 is for the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. Check around the air filter box—it’s usually a little black square attached to the intake hose.
@SharonCarter
Awesome, found it! Thanks for the help!
These codes are common on older RAV4s. Just focus on the P2420 first since that’ll usually fix the C1201 too.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll tackle the P2420 first and see if that clears the others.
