I started hearing a noise yesterday when I turn the steering wheel. It sounds like it’s coming from inside the wheel itself. I’ll check it again soon, but wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar before.
Just stop turning the wheel and you won’t hear it anymore.

Looks like we have a doctor in the forum.

I think you meant to reply somewhere else, but here’s a link that’s related to what we were talking about.
@Arthur
Ohh hahaha, I thought you were talking about a different thread for this issue!
My bones make a similar sound when I do that. How are your bones?
Does it feel like there’s a screw loose inside your steering wheel rattling around? I had a similar issue in my 4Runner. Apparently, there’s a small balancing weight on the wheel to help with alignment when driving. I went to a reputable mechanic, and they’d never seen it before. It’s rare, but the rubber part holding it in place just gave out.
It’s probably the clock spring mechanism. This helps maintain the electrical connections for the buttons and the airbag, preventing the wires from twisting too much and shorting out when you turn the wheel.
@Magdalina
Could this be why my horn and cruise control stopped working?

Yes, most likely the connection, fuse, or clock spring is the issue.
@Magdalina
Usually, when the clock spring breaks, the airbag light and other warning lights will turn on, but maybe it’s not fully broken yet.

Exactly, maybe there’s just a small plastic piece stuck inside that’s causing the noise.
Mine makes a similar noise when I turn all the way to the left.
There’s nothing wrong here. You’re just rolling the dice and wondering why they landed that way.
Check the nut behind the wheel
I have the same socks
