Anyone tried these CarPlay radios yet, are they worth it?

I picked this up on Amazon for $150 (now it’s down to $69 :triumph:). It works alright, but you’ll need to email the seller to get the software update right after getting it. The nice part is that it fits the car perfectly and you don’t need any tools or screws to install it since it doesn’t even use the original bracket.

It’s the Yzkong radio with Bluetooth CarPlay and Android Auto.

If you’ve got more money to spend, I’d honestly go for the Joying one at $469. It’s a much better option if you want something higher quality.

I picked one up from Amazon that came with a backup camera. Cost me around 120 bucks. It does wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Looks nice and connects fast too.

Why does Chick Fil A have a CarPlay app?

It just helps you get to the nearest Chick Fil A I think… you can probably save your usual orders too or something like that.

I get that you’re calling them greedy, just wasn’t sure what triggered that :joy:

I bought a cheap one from TikTok shop for my 2010 model. Touchscreen isn’t great but still better than using an aux cord and phone mount. Came with a backup camera too but I’d need to drill into my car to connect it to the taillight which is a hassle. Planning to move to Boston next year so I’ll need it eventually. My friends joke it looks like I’m an Uber driver now :sweat_smile:. Had it for about 6000 miles and it’s been working fine.

@Noel
Why do you need to drill a hole? Can’t you find the wire near the trunk?

Yeah, the wire’s somewhere in the trunk area.

Damn… last time I added a camera I was lucky to find the reverse wire in the light bundle. But mine wasn’t a 2010.

@Noel
Is it bad because it stops working? Mine looks okay for what I paid. Not super clear but good enough to see maps and stuff. Touchscreen is really responsive, the software just kinda average.

CarPlay audio is solid. But for calls, I need to turn the volume way up and keep my phone in my lap. I usually use Waze and music on my phone anyway. Bought it for about the same price as a full gas tank and it’s been worth it.

@Noel
That’s fair. I paid almost double what it sells for now so that stings a bit, but I’m not too mad. I’ve had that same problem with phone call audio. These radios don’t split the audio channels, which Android systems usually do better. I’ve also had YouTube Music randomly blast full volume right after a call ends :skull:

@PaulMagnet
Yeah the audio blasting is wild. I also don’t like how it randomly starts playing music without me asking.

That’s on Apple’s software mostly. The radio’s not really at fault there.

My 2024 Toyota already had CarPlay built in when I got it.

Nice! I posted this because a lot of people on this forum still use older cars and might find it useful :smile:

Same here! I put one in my 2011 last year. Cost me about $100 on Amazon and took around 30 minutes to set up. It’s been great. Came with a backup cam too but I didn’t bother installing it.
