Hi to all of you! Regarding the dependability of Toyota CVT transmissions, I am interested. Is there anyone who has experience driving a Toyota with a CVT transmission? How do they operate and how reliable are they in comparison to conventional automatic transmissions? I appreciate your insights in advance!
Hello everyone,
A man in my neighborhood is asking $4,500 for a 2016 Corolla LE with 60k miles. The fact that the CVT failed on it is the only issue. I now believe that $4,500 is a great price for a 2016 Corolla, and I am sure that I can change the CVT on my own (I’ve changed a few transmissions in the past, but not a CVT). My main worry is how trustworthy these CVTs are. The last thing I want is to replace a Toyota gearbox and have it blow up on me later because 60k is a rather low mileage for a gearbox to break. Does anyone know if there are ongoing issues with these CVTs? Later this week, I’m going to catch up with the guy to find out what transpired. The best case scenario is that it’s a sensor issue.
The majority of Toyota hybrid vehicles include CVTs known as eCVTs, which are essentially planetary gear sets. It’s arguably the most dependable kind of communication. It’s in my hybrid Ford Escape.
Nissans cvt is made by jatco and it’s garbage.
Toyota uses an Aisin cvt and it’s pretty reliable. Any Toyota hybrid uses a ecvt which is bulletproof but it’s not really a cvt. It has planetary gears, no torque converter or reverse…the electric drive motors reverse the vehicle. So it can only be used with hybrid technology.
No idea who makes Honda cvt’s but they seem reliable. I’ve heard they’re made in house dunno how true that is or who supplies the parts.
Toyota CVT Transmissions: Driver Experiences and Reliability
Driver Experiences:
Many drivers find Toyota CVTs to be smooth and comfortable. Here’s what you can expect:
- Smooth Operation: CVTs lack the jerky gear shifts of traditional automatics, providing a more continuous and pleasant driving experience.
- Potentially Improved Fuel Economy: CVTs can optimize engine RPMs for efficiency, potentially leading to better gas mileage compared to conventional automatics.
Reliability:
Toyota CVTs generally have a good reputation for reliability, especially compared to some early CVTs from other manufacturers. Here’s a breakdown:
- Generally Positive: Toyota CVTs are considered among the most reliable in the industry.
- Proper Maintenance Crucial: Like any transmission, proper maintenance is essential for longevity. Following Toyota’s recommended maintenance schedule is key.
- Potential for Wear: CVTs, like all transmissions, can wear out over time, especially under heavy loads or extreme driving conditions.
Additional Points to Consider:
- Driving Style: Aggressive driving or towing heavy loads can put more stress on a CVT and potentially shorten its lifespan.
- Newer vs. Older Models: Earlier Toyota CVTs might have had higher reported issues compared to their newer counterparts.
Overall:
Toyota CVTs offer a smooth and potentially fuel-efficient driving experience. They have a good reputation for reliability, but proper maintenance is crucial. If you’re a daily driver with a typical commute, a Toyota CVT is unlikely to cause you problems.
Toyota CVT transmissions are generally reliable. They have an average lifespan of 130,000-150,000 miles and are noted for their smooth performance.
In comparison to conventional automatic transmissions, Toyota’s CVT transmissions are considered reliable due to their simpler design and fewer mechanical components prone to failure. CVTs don’t have traditional gears that shift, but instead use a system of pulleys and belts or chains to provide a smooth and seamless driving experience. This design can contribute to better fuel efficiency and reduced engine wear over time. However, as with any transmission type, regular maintenance and proper driving habits are key factors in ensuring longevity and performance. Overall, if you prioritize a transmission known for efficiency and reliability, Toyota’s CVT technology is a solid choice, offering smooth operation and dependable performance for everyday driving.
