At what voltage does the 12V battery stop working in a Corolla Cross Hybrid?

For those who have replaced the 12V battery in their Corolla Cross Hybrid, at what voltage did your car stop starting?

Mine is currently at 12.4V, and I’m wondering if that’s low enough to be a concern. Anyone have experience with this?

Other than checking under the hood, is there a way to see the battery voltage in the system? I looked in the service menu on the screen but didn’t find anything.

I just check it directly under the hood. Not sure if there’s another way.

I think mine failed around 7V, but I don’t remember exactly. AAA came out and tested it, and Toyota replaced it under warranty because it wasn’t holding a charge.

Apparently, leaving it in Accessory Mode drains it faster than expected. I’ve heard others say to avoid using that mode at all.

@Mason
Good to know. I never leave mine in Accessory Mode—always either Ready Mode or completely off.

Do these 12V batteries really need to be replaced often?

I’m not sure either, but I heard the dealership charges around $450 for a replacement. My car is 3.5 years old, so I’m already looking at other battery shops.

@Ellison
Thanks for the info.

Hybrids don’t use the 12V battery to start the engine. My 2013 Prius is still on its original 12V battery.

Yeah, it doesn’t start the engine directly, but the system still needs a 12V signal to power up before the high-voltage system engages. Hoping my battery lasts as long as yours.

Do you have the 2ZR-FXE engine? Also, how’s your high-voltage battery holding up?

It absolutely needs the 12V battery! My Corolla Cross wouldn’t start because the 12V battery was dead. I had to jump-start it and take it to the Toyota service center, where they replaced it under warranty.

@Axelle
You need the 12V battery to power up the electronics, but it doesn’t crank the engine like in a gas car.

My electronics turned on, but the car still wouldn’t start because the battery was too low to disengage the electronic parking brake. Basically, it was undrivable until I jump-started it.
