I bought this truck in November 2021, just before the last of the V8’s were going off the lots. I drove a 2012 black SR5 for almost 10 years and it hit 300k miles without missing a beat. It was still running perfectly, but I decided to upgrade before the 3UR-FE engine was retired. These trucks are incredibly reliable.
Here are some of the mods I’ve added:
- TRD Dual Exhausts
- TRD Front & Rear Sway Bars
- TRD Cold Air Intake
- TRD Pro Headlights
- TRD Pro Grille
- JL Stealthbox with two 10" subs
- Leather Steering Wheel Swap
- Catskinz Leather Seat Upgrade
- ESP Truck Under Seat Storage
- AJT Designs Interior Blackout Kit
- De-Chromed Exterior and Interior
- Retraxone MX Tonneau Cover
- Fox Suspension Lift (2" front level)
- 35x11.50r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers
- 17" Icon Rebound wheels with painted bolts
@Vern
Are all TRD grilles interchangeable with the SR5s? I have a '23 SR5 and I want to make the grille stand out a bit more.
Looks amazing, well done! I have a 2021 Pro, mostly stock except for some Go Rhino running boards.
How do you feel about the sway bars? I’ve been considering the rear one. Can’t wait to upgrade my tires.
@Tilden
I just got a '20 SR5 4x4 in Cement, and I love it. (First Toyota since high school when I drove an '87 minivan with 290k miles!)
The color is the first thing everyone notices. Have you upgraded the wheels yet? I like the ones you have, but I’m curious what other people with Cement are running. As someone else mentioned, shopping for wheels is almost as fun as buying them.
What are the suspension and tire specs?

The tires look like Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 35x11.5r17.

Yep, that’s right. The front has a 2” Fox suspension lift, tires are 35x11.50r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers, and the wheels are 17” Icon Rebounds.
@Vern
Looks great! Are you having any rubbing issues? I’m in a '21 XSP and thinking about a similar lift (Bilstein 5100 for 2.5” front plus a 1” block shackle in the rear). Every shop I’ve talked to says I can only go up to 34” without rubbing, even if I remove the mud flaps. But from what I’ve seen online, 35” should fit fine .
@Amber
35s all the way! They’ll fit. With a 2” lift in the front, removing mud flaps, and adjusting plastics, you’ll have no rubbing issues.
I can’t speak to 35x12.50, though I’ve seen those fit too. My 35x11.50 tires work without a hitch.
@Vern
Thanks, that helps a lot!
@Vern
When you say pushing plastics, does that mean cutting some of the wheel well?
@Amber
I have a 3” front lift with Fox coilovers, and in the rear, I added a 1.5” Icon add-a-leaf along with Fox shocks. To eliminate rubbing with 35s, I had to remove the inner wheel well liners. It’s totally worth it. Also, I swapped in Dirt King upper control arms. You won’t regret it.
@Vern
Do you like the Fox setup? Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with Fox instead of King.
Looks great!
Looks amazing! The chrome delete on the second-gen Tundras really changes the appearance.
Nice! I’m planning something similar for my '21 Tundra SR5 4x4 CM Cement. What did you use for the chrome delete on the front? Do you have the model number for the Fox shocks? I was considering a Bilstein level, but now I’m thinking about Fox. Can’t wait to get my Katzskin installed. Got any interior pics?
@Tilden
For the front, I bought the TRD Pro grille and bumper surrounds from Sparks Toyota online. They offer to paint-match, but it’s not cheap and took a few months, but it was totally worth it.
For the rear bumpers, I used BumperShellz, no issues at all.
I went with the Fox 2.0 coilovers with the piggyback reservoir in the rear. They’ve been great. On-road performance is much better than stock. I read that the 2.0s are too small for these trucks and the 2.5” should be the minimum, but I’m not off-roading hard, and these work fine for me.
@Vern
Ah, a Zynns Tundra! Man, you’re speaking my language.
