Hi,
I recently replaced my front brake pads with non-OEM Bosch BE1324H pads, and now there’s a clicking noise when I drive in reverse and apply the brakes. I understand this is common in many vehicles due to the brake pads being slightly smaller than the OEM ones, causing them to move inside the caliper brackets.
I also noticed that the Toyota part number differs for Hybrid and non-Hybrid vehicles. However, parts stores like RockAuto list the same Bosch, Raybestos, etc., part numbers as compatible for both Hybrid and non-Hybrid models.
My question is: Is there actually a difference between the Toyota brake pads for Hybrid vs. non-Hybrid Highlander?
Thanks,

I have a hybrid and love it. I know petrol prices will always climb, and that extra 10 to 16 mph goes a long way.
When I replaced the brake pads on my Highlander, I ran into a similar issue with clicking noises after installing non-OEM pads. I discovered that the Toyota part numbers for Hybrid and non-Hybrid models are indeed different. The hybrid version often has different braking requirements due to its regenerative braking system, which can affect the fit and performance of aftermarket pads. I noticed that aftermarket parts like Bosch or Raybestos might not always account for these differences, despite parts stores listing them as compatible. After some research, I decided to go with OEM pads specific to my model to eliminate the clicking and ensure proper fit and performance. It turned out that using the correct OEM parts resolved the issue and provided a smoother braking experience.
